I'm learning how to use JAlbum. I'm now experimenting with customising
the generated albums by changing the underlying template slide.htt. As
'Open With' didn't work with that HTT extension for some reason, I
changed it temporarily to slide.htm and opened it in FP 2000. It
opened in HTML view and when I tried to switch it I got this message:

"This page contains scripting code that could be changed if you switch
to Normal view. Are you sure you want to switch to Normal view?"

For the time being I've said No, while I get advice here.
1) Surely just *viewing* the appearance of the page can't change the
code?
2) Why shouldn't I edit in Normal mode as usual anyway?

The message indicates that there is some poor HTML coding in the page
that prevents it being displayed correctly. If you switch to Normal,
or Preview, then FP will correct the bad HTML and probably make things
worse.
An example of "bad" HTML is where a table is opened in HTML, but
closed in script. This will possibly be OK in a browser, but design
view is NOT a browser and does not do script - FP will close the table
for you, in just the wrong place.

Terry,

If you're gonna delve deep into JAlbum, check out their tutes in their Help
section...also they have an excellent Forum on their site.

Last time I got into deep customization of a skin, I "think" I just used
Notepad on template/script stuff before generating the album.

Thanks both. Well into useful discussion on the JA forums too. Still
not sure the effort of customising JA+Skin is worth it, versus making
my own 'template'. But I'm sort of hooked on it now, compelled to
pursue until I either understand it properly or terminal boredom sets
in!

I got pretty deep into it a few years back...but *I* ran out of physical ram
:-)...now I pretty much stick to standard stuff with a few tweaks.
