I wonder? AVG mail scanning acts as a proxy between your mail client and
your mail servers. I suppose that means that it must appear to your mail
client as a server. I would suggest that "yes" is probably the correct
answer; the "server" would only be visible to MSOE, your mail client.

Better still, disable the AVG email scanning plug-in. Anti virus mail
scanners are known to cause problems with MSOE, and the AVG on-access
scanner will catch any viral file you try to manipulate in MSOE. Assuming
that there are definitions available for the virus, and you have the latest
definitions from AVG.

Is it your Firewall software that is generating this message?
I think you have to say yes, so that the Firewall allow the anti-virus s/w
to properly check for and apply updates...

Google "AVG EMail Scanner to act as a server"

I get nothing when I google that (in quotes).

Without quotes, I get lots of hits, but I didn't see anything that answers
my question.

Do you have Zonealarm on your system?
I click YES when these messages appear if I want programs to access the
internet.Open zonealarm, click on program control and you should see all
programs that have permission to access the net.AVG mail scanner will have 4
question marks next to it if you have not given permission.

Avg7 has email scanner component AVGEMS.exe which connects
to remote ports 25, 110. The AVG sig. update component is
AVGINET.exe which connects to remote port 80.
My firewalls rules (Sygate) allow these connections (only).
Both components are allowed to act as clients--neither
are allow to act as servers.
