I just signed up with a new webhost. During the account creation it
asked for an "email address for FrontPage." What is this for -- how
is it used? I have never been asked for such a thing in the past.

Ask your web host... as they would know exactly what it means.

: I did. Unfortunately the support person I asked didn't
know.

I can only fathom a guess, that this email address would be
for the FrontPage Server Extensions- as a source address for
the FP Email form handler

That was my guess, but could that mean it is hidden so the spammers'
web crawlers can't harvest it?

I ran into this about 2 years ago with my current web host.. In my site
control panel, you must enter a from and to email in order for the FP forms
to operate.
Mine is HSphere but there are likely differences with othe CPs.

In my case there is a button to edit the extensions. I simply put
(e-mail address removed) as the to and from address. Then the forms work
properly. Your host should have a section regarding use of FP which would
mention the process you need to use.

So everytime I put up a domain, I do the same thing. Confused the heck right
out of me.
