what do the numbers represent behind a calendar name?

I see numbers in paraenthsis behind my calendar, what do they mean? if they
are the number of unread events in my calendar and how can I access them.

Numbers in parentheses are, in fact, the unread entry counts. If you
display your calendar in a table view like Events, you should be able to
find the unread items fairly quickly because they'll be bold. You can also
simply right-click the Calendar folder and choose Mark All as Read.
