Please can you tell me exactly what software I need to completely protect my PC?

I hear of so many anti virus, spyware programs, etc and I'm looking for the best ones that are available for free??

I wouldn't want them to interfere with gaming and music, etc and it'll be good if they're easy to use for non technical minded people like me :D

Have a look at my reply to a similar post HERE - also if you need a good free Antivirus program to go with the listed free malware/spyware ones, then use AntiVir :thumb:

What about a firewall?

Is the Windows XP one ok to use? Or is it best to turn it off and use another one?

AntiVir is the best free anti virus.

Go HERE and get A-Squared, Spywareblaster, Windows Defender and Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Ewido is worth a look too.

That should keep you going for a while. :)

Firewall, you could use Zone Alarm or Keiro. (I use Kerio)

Oh, I nearly forgot - make sure you have a firewall, the inbuilt Windows Firewall with XP is OK, or use something like Zone Alarm :thumb:

*Edit: Hey V_R looks like we're cross posting again - good job we're giving the same advice!

McDaddy17, CCleaner wouldn't be a bad idea either. :)

Thanks guys.

If I use Zone Alarm, do I turn off the Windows XP firewall? Or can I have both running?

I've been using Linux for some time now. ;)

Yep, he still phones me up to see what else he can use in Vista from Linux/Mac

None, but I have had 3 using Linux ... I've never had to 'fix' the OS, just the hardware. ;)
