What do I do now

I finally got around to using NAV to scan my computer in Safe
Mode.

When going to NAV System status in safe mode, it indicated (in
red)
that Security Scanning for Auto Protect and for Incoming E-mail
were OFF, (though it shows as being On in normal mode.) I
couldn't correct this in the NAV program in safe mode.

Part way through the System Scan I got:
Fatal Exception at O15F:BFF9DBA

In a window under that one was:
NAVW32 caused an invalid page fault in module KERN E(or F)L32.DLL
at 015f::bff9dba7

All windows were frozen, couldn't 'x' out, so I shut down and
restarted
in normal.

What do I do now???

What did Symantic say? The name of the dll is Kernel32.dll. The address of
the error is in system space.

I put Kernel 32dll into 'find' and got a Word doc of 460 KBs,
Since that was installed on the date that my computer was mfgrd,
I plan to let it alone...a least for now.

Earlier today I uninstalled all traces of Norton.
I had planned to get around to doing this anyway.
I won't be able to ask Symantec.

Then I went to David's suggestion of Etrust, and was trying to
download at least the free antivirus part to hold me over.
The site promised to e-mail me with further directions...I
have not yet received that e-mail (2 hours later), and remembered
that I had the same problem before, which is why I didn't
uninstall NAV in August!

I would do the paid full e-trust suite, but now I'm not sure if
even that would work!

Sorry for rambling...
Right now I feel sooo unprotected!

If you must have a free AV, download AVG or, Avast. Both have a
free version.

If you can pay or one, get NOD32 from eset. I takes minimal
resources and does quite a good job. There are others here that
will tell you to get Kaspersky (also pay) - that's definitely the
other paid for one.

O.K. So I have now installed eTrust suite.

So now I have CAI eTrust (anti virus), Pest Patrol (anti spyware)
and ZoneAlarm (FireWall).

I wonder if getting NOD32 as well is still a good idea??

No.....you now have all you need with the eTrust suite. I just use the
antivirus part of it, plus Zone Alarm Pro and some spyware programs.

You *can't* run two on access scanners at the same time. That would
probably cause a conflict (i.e. both jumping for the malware at the same
time, etc.)

No doubt David will answer your query.

Cheers....Heather

Yes, I was thinking *conflict?*.
I felt sooo vulnerable with Norton out and nothing else in for
even those few hours.

Thanks to all for helping me through this dilemma.
