I bought ASUS A8N-E motherboard but didn't knew that it has this new 24pin
connector.. And bought in the same time 400W power supply with 20 pin.. The
motherboard is functioning with that power supply without problem.. So there
is a question do I need a 24 pin adapter or even a new power supply? And
what dos those extra 4 pin give?

Nothing but the ability to get higher current from the PSU by use of
doubling-up on the power pins.
