What could be the causes for a tray drive to dissapear

Hi,

I have XP PRo with some drives in trays and one every now and then
disappears off the radar.

It takes a boot or two to get it showing again.
What are some of the reasons for this?

Drives in trays? Probably a marginal electrical/data connection.
