I understand I can use one to store but what else could I use a second hard
drive for . I can also use it to format the other hard drive if I want to
reformat the 0 hard drive . I use Windows XP Home Edition , I love it with a
gigiabyte of memory by the way , I play a few online games and spend most of
my other time working out how to use Windows XP Home Edition properly .
There's no need for other utilities is there . I'm coming to a bit of a
loose end as it were too because I had a some older computers I got to get
going and I found a few problems where older drivers from ftp. sites don't
load or get copied properly by Windows so I'm giving up the older computers
and looking for something to occupy my time too . I spend most of my time at
home , I'm here to help out a 75 year old guy when I can and I get a
government benefit .

No, you can't use it format your 0 drive.. yes, you can use it to store
stuff.. yes, you can use it as a mirror of your boot drive by 'ghosting' an
image of your OS and apps to it..

Other uses.. door stop, paper weight, arcane wall decoration, sanding block,
offensive weapon, novelty ornament on a piece of furniture, table leg
equaliser, drill stop..

Best use.. as per first paragraph, but not including 'format device'..

Secondary use.. in one of your older computers as a decent boot drive..

the older computers are paddock fodder , I'll keep up with the newer ones
thanks .
1 not 0
mirror eh ?
I'll go and look that up
thankyou and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

A 2nd or 3rd hd cant be beat on a OS,use it to install less used programs,
paging file for the OS,storage,3rd party programs installations are great
for this,etc. etc....

I use the second hard drive for backing up data. The probability of both
drives failing at once is very slim. Since you are using Windows XP Home,
the back up program isn't installed. It is called ntbackup.msi Visit the
Microsoft site and download it. As opposed to Windows XP Pro, the back up
will not save System Settings.

that's a good idea because I use System Restore already but I usually delete
all the old restore points .
thankyou

I don't agree. Yes, it's highly unlikely that both drives will independently
fail at once. But I don't recommend backup to a second non-removable hard
drive because it leaves you susceptible to simultaneous loss of the original
and backup to many of the most common dangers: severe power glitches, nearby
lightning strikes, virus attacks, even theft of the computer.

In my view, secure backup needs to be on removable media, and not kept in
the computer. For really secure backup (needed, for example, if the life of
your business depends on your data) you should have multiple generations of
backup, and at least one of those generations should be stored off-site.

My computer isn't used for business, but my personal backup scheme uses two
identical removable hard drives,I alternate between the two, and use Drive
Image to make a complete copy of the primary drive.
