What cable will I need for a peer to peer network with 2 computers?

I have two computers and I want to connect them to make a peer
to peer network. They both have network cards on-board, so what
cable will I need? The standard cable used on phones and dial-up
modems, or something else?

Ethernet cat 5 crossover cable to connect 2 network cards directly. If you
put a hub or switch between them, use an ethernet cat 5 patch (straight
through) cable.
