Hi,

What board is best for a 1u rackmount case? Im initially looking at
Gigabyte GA-K8N..

The case im looking at takes standard atx boards, so is there anything else
to consider? will the 200w psu be enough for a 3200 Athlon 64 and 2 sata
drives?

Thanks!
Dan

First of all, Gigabyte GA-K8N won't fit to any 1U chassis because of the
on-board audio port. The audio port is taller than a standard 1U height ( >
1.75") chassis. Unless you physically remove the audio port from the board,
you won't be able to fit it in a 1U chassis. You might want to consider
Athlon 64 boards made by Soltek (Model#SL-K8AV2-R/SL-K8AV2-RL). The boards
do not have vertically aligned audio ports. They will fit nicely into a
standard 1U chassis. Check out http://www.soltek.de

Secondly, you will need a power supply that supports at a minimum of 300W
power. I have seen some very nice 1U chassis with AMD 64 support on
rackmount.com. http://www.rackmount.com/Chassis.htm

Third, you will need a very good 1U CPU cooling fan for the Athlon 64 board.
Check out Frostytech CPU heat sink reviews. There are many 1U CPU fans
listed. http://www.frostytech.com

Hope this help!

Dan,

I recommend Tyan 2882 Pro for 1U as they work great and they have everything
you need on board to run - including an on-board video jack, 2 Gigabit
Ethernet ports and 1 100BT Ethernet port on-board as well as a 4-port SATA
controller and an optional SCSI320 controller.
The boards are more expensive, but considering all that comes with them, the
price is well worth it (stable as hell, too!).
This way, you won't waste your PCI or PCI-X slot on unneccessaries since you
can only use 1 slot in a 1U config (w/o expensive specialty adapters).
