What are Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications and why so many ?

Why am I having to download and install Windows Genuine Advantage
Notification every couple of weeks ? What does it have to do with the
security of my machine ? What does it have to do with improving the
performance of my system ?

Who is the beneficiary of the extra time I am spending dealing with all
these WGAs ?

WGA is a new item and there have been several updates to it so as to
fix bugs and glitches.

WGA validation is needed in order to access at least some of the items
at Windows Update and also to download new software from Microsoft
such as Windows Defender.

Hi
I too wonder about wga as I keep gettting update downloads and they fail to
install.
I have a legit copy of win XP but everytime they send another update the
same thing happens so I have disabled this update every time I get it.
What can I do to fix this problem?
