I've no idea first hand but I did put " .cdf files " into a google
search and got a lot of hits. Too much to list here, but if you try it
it might give you a clue as to what wrote them.

Also, do you recall what you were doing at that time (08:12pm on
08/16/24)? One thing I've done under these circumstances is to do a
file search based on creation date, sort the list (by date/time) and
then look to see what other files were written around that time. It
can be a good memory jogger as to what was happening on your system at
that time.

There's at least one website that details various file extensions:

Their "CDF" list may be quite useful to you.

Also, notepad can be used to open all sorts of files, and a look at the
front of those files might yield some specific hints.

InstallShield is among the apps that can produce CDF files.
