Hi,
I am have been investigating building a silent PC. I am not 100% concerned about performance as i have an ultra quick machine allready.

I would like to know other peoples views on firstly thw quietest Case ( not taking into account the power supply) and secondly the actual power supply and thirdly the CPU cooler.

I have looked at the following
Cases:
Antec P180 Advanced Super Midi Tower Case
Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case ( with sound proofing)
Arctic Cooling T2 Silentium Silent Midi Tower Case

Power supply:
Tagan TG580-U15 580W ATX2.01 Easycon SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU
Antec Phantom 500W Hybrid Fan Silent ATX2.0 PSU
Antec Phantom 350W Fanless ATX2.0 PSU
Zalman ZM400B-APS 400W ATX2.0 PSU

CPU Cooler:
Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower Cooler, Copper
Zalman CNPS7700-CU 120mm Super Flower Cooler AMD and P4
Scythe Ninja Fanless Heatpipe CPU Cooler
Scythe Kamakiri P4/AMD Heatpipe CPU Cooler

If anyone has any other componants to add them please go ahead. Thanks for looking

Jed

Anything by Tagan is, as far as I know, very quiet. Fanless PSUs arent worth knowing about. Zalman seem to have the quiet PSU crown, but Tagan have more power for high-end rigs.

Not 100% sure bout the cases or CPU coolers, sorry

Zalman Super Flower cooler is good, albeit huge.

Tagan PSU's are quiet.

I have an Antec Sonata case with Antec 380W Truepower PSU, it is extremely quiet.

However, it didn't cool very well, so replaced supplied exhaust 120mm fan with a mid-speed model and added another one the same to inside of case. It's a fair bit cooler but it's still very quiet indeed.

In fact it's the quietest machine I have.

I don't think you'd need the extra accoustic lining for the Sonata, it's quiet enough and fitting the lining would increase case & CPU temps.

And that's about all I can comment on really, haven't had experience of anything else in your list.

Zalman.com
look for the TNN 500AF case. it a Totally noise less case that uses heat pipes to cool the CPU and has a fanless PSU.
Very expensive.
kinda late aint i?
