What are Shell Folders

What are shell folders what do they do. I would just like
to know. Thanks Ray

The only "shell" folder I have is ShellNew and it seems to hold files that
help various applications integrate with the OS, in my case, they are
MS-Office files.

If you are referring to "Shell Folders" registry key, read:

Windows XP users have special folders in their user profiles, such as the My
Documents, My Pictures, and Favorites folders. The path for these folders
are stored in the "Shell Folders" registry key below:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Thanks for your reply. I understand what Shell Folders

are now. I store this information so that I can learn
about computers. Hope you will look at my new post about
Mapisvc32.exe as i am having a problem with this. (Not
responding when computer shutting down)
