Can anyone tell me what this is exactly and do I need this on my PC? I am
getting low of space on my PC and I have microsoft net framework 2.0 which
takes up 88.37 MB and then I have microsoft net framework 3.0 for another
57.73 MB. I know this all sounds stupid, but obviously I know nothing about a
PC..LOL I have tons of stuff in my control panel/ add remove and would like
to get rid of as much stuff as I possibly can, and I do not know what 90% of
the stuff is in here. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

The .Net software was installed when you installed some program and/or
device that uses it. Different programs/devices use different versions
of .Net so you can't just use one. If you uninstall .Net, whatever
program or device (like a printer) that uses it will no longer work.

If you are running out of space, you would be better off either 1)
buying a larger hard drive; or adding a second hard drive; or getting an
external hard drive and copying data to it as a backup and to get it off
your hard drive.

The .net frameworks consist of run-time files needed for programs written
with .net. They are analogous to the old vbrunxxxx.dll runtime files written
with Visual Basic, if you remember those. Like Visual Basic, there's more
than one version of .net, and you may need more than one version of the .net
framework.

Do you need the .net framework files? That depends on whether you have any
programs installed that use them. Even if you don't, my recommendation is
that you keep them, because you will probably need them sooner or later.

You apparently have a total of 146 MB tied up in those files. Perhaps 146
million bytes sounds like a large number, but to put it in perspective, it's
really a *tiny* amount. At today's hard drive prices, that's usually under
a single penny's worth (US) of hard drive space.

If you are so short of disk space that you need to recover that 146MB, you
have a more serious problem that needs addressing. You need a bigger hard
drive, and anything like this you do can at best be a stopgap measure.

Hi Ken,
Thank you for the info. I think I will just check into adding a second drive
or getting a bigger one. I really have no clue what I am using those for so
it would be best if I just hang on to them.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

That's my recommendation. They use a tiny amount of space, so you might as
well keep them for when you need them. If you don't need them now, you will
soon.
