What a waste

What good is a 64 bit computer? Can't play games, can't print anything, not
even throw a network. I bought one and what a waste. Can anyone tell me what
this thing is good for, except to wait 2 years when all the drivers come
out?

Running loads of 32 bit stuff?

Uh, have you been using a beta OS? My Athlon 64 PC's have been useful for
both home and office use since the day(s) they first booted, with no driver
issues. Of course, I'm running a production OS on them, except the one
designated as a beta test box.

It's not a waste if you have 64-bit native applications that need large
memory support, but for the average Joe home user the software and
drivers are not there yet. Just run a 32-bit OS for now and maybe do
some research before you buy stuff from now on! ;p

They work fine on planet Earth! Where are you?

Or did you buy cheap components that nobody supports?

Please don't breed. It just makes the problem worse.

Fedex it to my house. I'll find something useful to do with it.

I agree. I'll wait until my 32-bit AOpen AK77-600 Max mainboard with a AMD
XP 2500+ can no longer do what I need it to do. At the moment it does
everything including DOOM 3. Those who bought the 64-bit are the testers
for AMD and M$ and me. To them I say thank you. Must be nice to have the
cash or rich parents to afford technology that isn't yet mainstream. I
don't.

I went 64 bit last August , and its been utterly reliable. I've been a
guinea pig for no one, though I'm still on 32 bit Windows as I will be for
some time yet.

I didn't say you were a guinea pig. If I had the money or even the time I
too may have been a tester for AMD or M$ or for others. I don't have the
time nor the monies. Family time is more important.

The problem richard is most hardware vendors are only mainly updating
drivers for recent hardware. Did you make sure you purchased a PCIe Intel
style AMD board or old technology AMD board?

Erm, did you really NEED 64 bit computing? DO you run large databases
thet require gigabytes of memory to run? Perhaps you run a web server
farm? If so, why do you need a printer or play games??

64-bit really is being missold to many people, who think it's going to
be a major leap in performance, when really it means your are moving to
Server 2003 SP1, and locked down drivers.

I can't imagine that this is your first computer, meaning that you had
one which you decided was outdated and went out to buy the newest model the
shop had to offer, thus landed yourself with one that has a 64-bit
processor. Before deciding to spend your money on this one, you must have
discussed the various models available with the shop assistant, or didn't
you? Did you not get the low-down on what a computer with a 64-bit processor
can or cannot do? The computer couldn't have come with a pre-installed
Windows XP x64, because the OS isn't available until very recently, so you
must have installed it yourself. Could you not feel the difference in
performance and speed between the x64 and the 32-bit OS's? At any rate, if
you truly feel that it is totally useless, you can certainly return it to
the shop from where you bought it, and get one that suits your needs.

I hear 64 bit computers are good for getting trolls to exit the woodwork and
enter the light.

Gee... Mine works just fine!

Hmm

I have been running a 64 bit AMD system for couple months now.
All my games play great.
My printer works just fine.
My networking works just fine.

My 64 bit computer is very good!

Are you perhaps, talking about trying to run the above on the newly releases
to mfg Windows XP Pro 64??
