& took me 1/2 hr to get any newsgroup access

It must be your connection or ISP.
I downloaded 100,00 (approx) groups
in < 3 minutes from the BT server.

I have 5Mb DSL

In that case it must be your set up or server
because I know that WLMd can do the job well
the way I have it set up with BT's news server.

You are surprised?

Did you think after not fixing OE bugs for years that the same people would
come up with a solid product?

It looks good to me.

Looks can be deceiving. It still blows as a newsgroup reader, especially for
large newsgroups. Give it some more time, you'll see. I went straight back
to Thunderbird for newsgroups, and I use Outlook for email, anyway. The
underlying code and database structure of WLM has not changed.... and it's
still flawed.

Oh, one of the dumbest decisions I have seen- you can no longer
customize the toolbar. That's just ignorant.

I don't doubt that if Thunderbird 2.0 got it's act together
with respect to...
a) combine and decode and, more importantly,
b) marking crossposts read when read once
I'd be in like Flynn.
