I have downloaded the wga software and now i keep getting pop-ups to say that
it is not secure and it wants me to install windows sp2. I already have
norton security and would therefore like to remove the pop-up. Is this
possible??? Many thanks

And in addition security updates are now ONLY available for systems with
SP2 installed.....so you NEED to install it.

I did install it initially but the everything was so slow as my norton
firewall and security thought the windows firewall was a virus. Basically had
too much protection so i uninstalled it again.

You uninstalled the wrong thing.
Almost anything Norton slows a computer.
Instead replace Norton with AVG AV, Avast AV or one of the several
other free anti viruses available.
For the firewall use the built in Windows firewall or if you want more
control, use something like the Zone alarm firewall.

You probably need SP-2 along with other updates that require it.

Windows Update site now says that only SP2 users will get security
updates.....

Many thanks for your help.
