Hi - can I get an update to WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) once it's
verified that I'm not a pirate? I don't like being treated like a suspect day
after day.

Nope. It will continue doing that forever.

Thanks for that reassurance :)

Since forever is a long time in computing, I've been told that what I need
to do is delete a certain DLL file in system folder. Surely there are more
elegant ways than that of restraining anti-social behaviour by my OS?

Not at this point - except maybe blocking the communincation with a
firewall.

Apparently tracking down thieves is a higher priority than treating
legitmate customers with respect.

Who'd a thought it?

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked:
"Have you checked (event viewer / syslog)".

If you search for the 4 instances of the program, you can delete it
without any issues that I've seen so far.

I deleted it on 60 some systems so far, and then set the updates to
ignore, and no problems.

You still need WGA, just not WGAN.

I have read recently that MS will change it to check once every two weeks
due to complaints.

I can accept that they check once, upon inital install, but then like a
good app, it should uninstall itself and never be asked again unless
activation is triggered again.

That's what I sent my partner rep to pass on to the WGA team.

If you have no problem with it as you have stated many times in the
past--WHY are you removing it? <VBEG>

Good response! Ignore my other post asking why you were removing it <G>

I don't agree with it staying on my machine once I've been validated. I
don't agree with it running on a non-pirated machine once it's been
proven to be legit. I completely agree with it running and continuing to
run on a pirated machine without the user being able to remove it.

I removed it, because after passing it and being determined to be legit,
I saw no reason to waste CPU cycles on loading Windows - as I posted to
my Partner Rep at MS.

Try bottom posting so that the messages flow properly, and since the
world does not revolve around your posting know that I did not ignore
your post.

Hehehehehe-- you're going to tell me how to post properly? Now THAT'S funny!

I have been doing this too many years for such bs. I follow the conventions
of the server I am posting to in most cases, and top posting is by far the
most prevalent method of posting on the msnews server.

I actually prefer inline posting to top or bottom posting, but too many
newbies never see the reply <G>

PS--the only thing more annoying than top posting is bottom posting without
trimming. Nothing is worse than scrolling through (xxx)lines of quoted text
to get to a <AOL> me too <AOL> reply.

Screw you and your net nanny remarks about bottom posting. This isn't your
private newsgroup.

If the reply is already using a method you should stick with it so that
it threads properly in the readers - not doing so is rude.

Glad I could bring a little humor into your day :)

Yea, having been doing Usenet since 84 I've seen it all, and still
disagree with top posting, although I can tolerate it, but I don't
understand the mix in a reply when it's already started as bottom (and
including snipping).

I do too, and I don't make excuses for the people that don't take the
time to learn about it. I also don't make excuses just because MS found
out about Usenet and then perverted the posting/reading by allowing
Outlook Express to access it, or to not teach people about Usenet
instead of Web Base forums that replicate to Usenet groups.

Yea, that does get really annoying.
