Hello !

A friend of mine recently installed Zone Alarm 7 on his system. He
noticed that he get a "Notifications Windows Genuine Advantage is
trying to access the internet" message on *every* boot.

I tought this was true for the first versions of WGA, but that MS has
revised this policy on later versions to "phone home" only once a week
or something like that. Am I wrong ?

If not, is there a way to replace his current WGA check with the latest
version ?

Thanks.

PS: the system is a Genuine Windows XP-Home OEM from HP.

AFAIK WGA is basically spyware which connects on every boot. Which is
why I refuse to allow this spyware to be installed. (My PC is a Dell
with legal XP, so there is nothing I am trying to hide: I just do not
like spyware, and I just do not like Microsoft's default assumption that
I am using stolen software.)

It's checking for updates. Should only take a very short period of time,
right? If it's more than a couple seconds, something else is going on.
