I'm off to a horse racing day tomorrow at Wetherby with some friends - I'm looking forward to it but fully expect to come away empty handed

Any tips for a first timer at the races

Yeah, don't bet everything on a single race, spread it out over the course of the day, otherwise you may well lose it all in the first race and have nothing to do for the remainder of the day ;)

Oh yes, I'll be doing that - taking £20 to splurge so only a few quid here and there ;) Sticking my winnings in another pocket, who knows I may come away with enough to buy some fish and chips on the way back

Wave to me as you pass by Doncaster :)

Good luck at the races - Wetherby is lovely and there are some gorgeous shops - you have been warned :)

Gabs xx

Yep look and learn, look and learn.;)

My Dad took me to the Brighton races when I was young, about 10 years old. Couldn't understand the gambling concept at all then, but remember the atmosphere, the colours, the people, the horses - good fun :)

Have also been to the dogs quite a few times, good fun as long as you don't bet silly money.

Oh, just remembered, went to Epson races as well once, but I'm afraid all I done was get terribly drunk, didn't bet at all :o

I won on the first race :D

I picked the horse because the jockey wore a pretty colour and it had 'diamond' in it's name ;)

Thats the best way to pick them.:thumb:
How much did you win?
I once used that same method on 5 horses 50p each way on The National & won £70:D
A friend did the same method and none of his horse's got past the 3rd fence!!

I think Bex had all the luck ;) I won £10 on one race, but was down overall by about £10 - was a really good day though.

I could have kicked myself at one point though, there was a horse at 25/1 (Heltornic I think) that I was considering betting on as it just looked good when it was walking about pre-race. In the end I didn't, but my mate did - and it won   Safe to say he bought the drinks that round!

On the race I won I bet £2 and won £18.

In all I bet £14 (£2 per race) so up by £4!! Woohoo! ;)

Congratulations Sexy Bex:thumb:
Thought of what you going to spend your winnings on?

Always nice to see someone win.
Last year backed 3 horses in the national and none made it past the 3rd fence!
