I bought this about a year ago from my brother & occasionally used it. I
switched it back and forth from laptop to desktop with no problems. I didn't
always keep it connected to a computer.
Now I'd like to use again on a more permanent basis, except when I connect
it to either computer, it reboots it and doesn't allow it to go into XP -
not even using SafeMode.
Last I remember (last summer) I had formatted it and that's when the
rebooting problem began, which is why I stopped using it altogether. I have
searched on WD site for similar problems but not able to find a solution. I
can't get it connected to a computer long enough to even try to format again
or to find out what prob could be using their suggestions. Anyone ever have
similar prob & are than any solutions?
Thanks!

Boot a Bart PE CD and format it using that.

Its better to keep the conversation in
the newsgroup, so others can read it.

Ty.. I did get the program but am lost with it. I'll have to do some
reading.

Yeah, its a bit of a hassle building a bootable CD.

Knoppix is a lot easier, but not as easy to use once
you have booted it since its Linux and not XP.
I don't think it will help either way.

Yes it will.
The HD isn't installed on the computer anymore.

Just install it again with the system turned off
and then boot the Bart PE or Knoppix CD.
I can't get that far since it constantly reboots computer when connected.

That wont happen when you have boot the Bart PE or Knoppix CD.

You're getting the reboot effect because
XP is configured to reboot on serious errors.
I did get WD format utility and it doesn't see HD so I doubt this one
will find it.

Bet it will.
