I have 120MB Western Digital hard drive which I purchased
almost year ago. I already had one hard drive in my PC, so
Western Digital was installed as slave for back up and
storing data. Operating system is not installed on it.
Western Digital hard drive worked fine until couple of
days ago. Now, it constantly beeps when I'm trying to copy
or browse data and in event viewer log I getting following
messages in System folder:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None

Then when I want to check data in folder that I was coping
to, I'm getting message that folder is unreadable. So, I
closing all windows and restarting PC. When PC restarted,
I can't see Western Digital hard drive at all. When I
turning off my PC and turning back on again, I could see
Western Digital hard drive. However, as soon as I coping
to or from it data, I'm getting above messages again and
XP works extremely slowly until I reboot again.

I sent message to Western Digital support and they implied
that is a XP issue.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Victor

Sounds like a drive problem to me, why not just go to their website and
download one of their diagnostic utilities.

Victor,
You might try running the diagnostic utilities that came on the disk that
was inclluded with your drive. Or, go to the Western Digital site and
download the diagnostic.

It sounds like your drive may be failing.

Good luck.

Ron

Ran WD diagnostic utility and it gave Error# 0006. When I
switched HD from slave to prmary and changed ribbon and
ran utility again, I got no errors. Weird. What can it be?

Thanks,
Victor
