I posted earlier (~ a week ago) about having diagnosed my condition
(freezing during capture) as requiring an unreleased hotfix from Microsoft
and having difficulty getting it from them. Well after much wrangling with
them I was finally told that it is not available to the public and that my
case would be forwarded to the "research team" who will call me Monday. Out
of desperation I re-tried all of the suggestions from Papajohn's site
(Thanks ppj!) None worked. Finally, in a last ditch effort, I swapped out my
IEEE1394-USB2 combo card for my old IEEE1394 card and, Voila! No more
freezes. Now I have to eat crow when MS's research team calls on Monday, but
I get to get cracking on my project in the meantime!

Never underestimate the potential crappiness of your hardware.

Thanks again Papajohn.

Y'know, I've looked high -n- low on the card, the box and the install
intruction slip that came with it and it seems no one wants to take credit
for it!

It is marked with a sticker: S/N:26554979, Made in China

And the main chip reads:
ALI
M5271 AI
0301 TS05
EK33161000c

That's all I got!
