I loaded SP2 to my daughters & grand kids computer that
rarely uses the Internet on a dial up connection and
discovered that I would need to spend (MS update site
calculated) 15 HOURS downloading, disconnecting and
restarting the box to "make it safe".

Welcome to the wonderful world of Windows.!

On the other hand PCWORLD.com has all of the updates for XP somewhere on
their website(cant remember the exact website..try search)
From there you can download the updates and burn them to a CD/DVD for use on
their machine.

Service Pack 2 incorporates all the fixes since the initial release of XP to the SP 2 release date. It is a major update and a very large file.

I don't know your proximity to them, but I usually take a customer (using
dial up) computer to my house, load ALL updates to all programs and bring it
back.

It takes less time.

Top posting from a MS-MVP put aside. I know that SP2 is a
"major" bug fix for XP Doug, but the problem is most people
like you, including Microsoft, think that most people
including Australians, live on the Internet with a fast
"broadband connection", well we do not.

Why should we spend 15 hours dialup on the internet
upgrading the worlds biggest and richest software company's
operating system.?

You shouldn't.
Don't install the updates (you've been given sensible alternatives to get
the updates).
Stay as you are with your security risks... sooner or later you'll get fried
and then we won't have to listen to your boring anti-Microsoft posts.

Who held the gun to your head when you chose a Microsoft operating system?

Why does Microsoft supply all these updates to us for free and is the
disk still free? I thought it was supplied for a smll fee these days
similar in price to the various Linux distros.

If a garage had to offer the same services to a car I bought, maybe
even from a different seller, they wouldn't last long. (I often wonder
with the superabundance of pirate ware in the far east, how many people
from their phone help lines have genuine OSs.)

Top, middle and bottom posting - how does that grab you.

Top posting from a MS-MVP put aside.

Who cares - you seem to be in the minority who find this a problem.
For complicated threads bottom posting can be better - for answering a very
very simple one line Q like yours.............but most importantly...
..... in a newsgroup conversational discussion or dialogue, it is
extremely important that the discussion be trimmed and contextualized.

How about reading the replies instead of belly-aching about not having BB, -
you have missed the solution.
YVES gave you the answer - get the free disk - I did - its so easy - cost
nothing - do you understand the suggestion or not?
