retired bill

I would like to change the size of the pictures I have associated with the
users
on our welcome screen. Can this be done, and if so how?
 
With so many posts regarding topics completely unrelated to this
NG from idiots such as yourself, why do you worry about
crossposting. Ok, so he crossposted, who cares, who really
gives a sh it except a rs eholes like you.
Do you go out of your way to find crossposters? Do you read
all the crossposts? DL, I feel very sorry for you.

No if a person crossposts a message to several newsgroups like they are
supposed to, it makes it easier for everyone else to read messages.
When you read a message that has been crossposted to several newsgroups,
it is marked as read in all the newsgroups it has been crossposted to so
you only see the message once. When a message is multiposted, you'll
see it in every newsgroup it's multiposted to.

Not only that, but the poster also can check any of the crossposted
groups for an answer. He doesn'thave to visit every group to see if
anyone answered. Crossposting helps everyone.

DL isn't the one to be feeling sorry for. Any idea what multi-posting
means? Checky tout.

I regard posting links to unknown places as you regard cross
posting. I'm sure the link to http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm
is quite harmless. However, I try to make a habit of not
activating links found in NG's. I learnt that lesson the hard
way a long time ago.
But I assume it goes to justify the argument that crossposting
is not a good thing. Nevertheless, it could not justify or negate
the right of an individual to choose to crosspost.
This case in point:
I did not know that he crossposted his message elsewhere. If he
had not crossposted then I would probably not have seen the
post and it may have been of interest to me. If I see a post in
one NG and then the same post in another then I just don't read
the second.
Laying down the so called law from some fantasy world in
someone's mind only dilutes the credibility of the person doing
the complaining.

there are two ways of understanding what crossposting is/means.
1 The actual meaning of the word or act.
2 The actual perception of the word.
I bet that most people think that cross posting is posting the same
message in a number of newsgroups. While this may or may not
be correct strictly speaking. It is the way it is perceived.
You obviously, have bothered to find a definition, I seriously
doubt that most people go the trouble you have.

Black, white, right or wrong. It's always comes down to perception.

You haven't been in these groups that long. That, and you apparently
haven't been paying much attention.

Newbs are constantly being reminded by many separate individuals of
the benefits of cross-posting as opposed to multi-posting. And one of
the best ways of curtailing the annoying practice of multi-posting
includes telling the newbs the difference.

all I've ever noticed is people telling others not to crosspost.
I've never read a post telling someone off for Multiposting.
Or the differences of Cross Vs Multi posting.
Multiposting, sure this is bad and should never be done,
especially if you guys are paying by the second. But crossposting, well I
don't see the problem. sometimes you may
not know which group to post in so you post in a couple of similar groups
hoping to strike oil.
If they don't know the difference then they should be told and if they do
know the difference then they should be allowed to make their own choice.
But how do you determine if they know or not?
Answering a post only to tell a person not to crosspost is NO
guarantee they are going to take any notice of you.

I've never read a post telling someone off for Multiposting.

Crossposting is rarely criticized... except when someone overdoes it
and blasts to a bazillion groups.

No, that's because I rarely read of finish reading posts where someone is
being
criticized, or told what or what not to do. There's enough cops on here
without me joining the ranks.
 
I think that you will find that people don't usually complain much about
crossposting, the complaints are almost always about multi-posting. If
you read the multiple replies to the OP's post in the multiple groups to
where he posted no one said to not crosspost, all the respondents told
him to learn the difference between the two posting methods.
Multi-posting wastes everybody's time, including that of the one who
does the multi-posting.
