I always start my computer, go do something else and when I return, it is
ready to go. Since the last Win Update, it is now necessary to sit there
until my name (administrator) comes up. Then I have to clk my name and wait
to load my settings.
How can I get back to where I was i.e., just push the start button and after
booting up, everything is ready to go?

If you are using Windows XP, you can go to : Settings->Control Panel->User
Accounts. You will have the options "Use Welcome screen" and "Use Fast User
Switching". If you uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" you should boot right
into windows as did before.

You might want to try the following:

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
In the box that pops up, replace Administrator in the "User
Name" box with your user account. Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if your account does
not have a password.
Click OK twice and reboot to see if you get the desired
results.

Thanks for the help. scorpiologig, your suggestion simply caused the
password box to appear thus defeating my goal of un-assisted startup.
New England Pats Fan, thanks very much, your suggestion works fine. There
are a lot of smart/helpful people out there, thanks again.
Great game Sunday huh?
