I'm told by a networking guru that an XP SP2 patch was
recently issued that denies further use of the welcome
screen if a network is added to the computer. One of my
computers recently visited update.microsoft.com and it now
has this problem.

Could someone post the update number (i.e., mskb article
number) so I can choose the right patch to uninstall?

I have not heard of this at all. However, if a network administrator,
maintaining a domain, decides to create a login script (ala NetWare), that
may.

But if you have a standalone PC (Home or evern work), I do not believe that
is true.

Two XP SP2 computers on a wireless LAN. Client has the
problem after installation of a Netgear cardbus wireless
adapter and latest from update.microsoft.com. Are you
absolutely certain the welcome screen is still available
given the circumstances described?

Problem caused by Netgear software installation; fixed by
deleting a registry key. Thanks for the response.
