Welcome screen freezes

When I boot/reboot my computer, my "Welcome" screen
freezes and the desktop does not come up for literally 2
min (I timed it). However, I notice that if I hit ctrl-
alt-del, it will go to the desktop. Anyone know how to
fix this and what is causing this?
