I am repeatedly getting error messages in my event logs related to netbios
issues but i am not using wins at all on my network. all workstations and
servers are win2k. one error is stating that a duplicate name has been
detected on the network...when i convert the hex to decimal and track down
the machine with that ip it isn't a duplicate name.(error id is 4319)

I also have master browser errors where it states that the master browser
has received a server announcement from computer %computername%. Should i
be concerned with these errors? what is going on here?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Are any machines/servers configured to allow remote access? Having the
"internal" IP of a RAS/VPN connection register its Netbios name on the
network can cause this sort of thing.

i have a w2k3 server setup with ras...i checked it out and didnt see any
errors with that machine.
i will investigate some more.

i appreciate any help you can give. thanks

See MS KB 292822 for a discussion of the problems with running VPN on a
DC, particularly the section on disabling Netbios over TCP/IP on the RRAS
server's "virtual" IP.
