I had a similar problem appear with my Voodoo3 and Sony G400, what happened
was that the modelines or monitor timings were changed in later driver
versions. The way I described it was a vertical shadow on the left of the
screen.

It was easy for me to fix, 'cos I just pulled the modelines from the old
drivers out to a .reg file and clicked it after installing or updating with
the newer drivers.

I think powerstrip might be able to adjust modelines (when you adjust screen
size and position in software, you are adjusting the modelines, it's the
timings on when to start and stop scanning horizontally and vertically)

I did... but not the one I described (I'm afraid I didn't read your question
properly).

The problem I had was from a crap monitor lead... shadows to the right of
vertical edges, especially on light, but not white backgrounds.

Basically a result of using an unshielded monitor cable.

Propably not supported (or enabled) in the motherboard BIOS. But recommended
is OFF, so that's ok (no performance increase so doesn't matter anyway).
