While on the internet with IE6 a window popped up
saying: "remote procedure call (RPC)terminated
unexpectedly, system will shut down" followed by a count
down and then re-boot. If I loose my dial up connection
why would the system shut down? Running WinXP pro.

You likely have the blaster virus. See
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.r
emoval.tool.html
And
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/securit
y/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
And ensure you keep your windows updated with critical updates from
Microsoft. Also you need to install and run an antivirus program.
