OK folks, anyone had this 'lil' problem: When surfing can SAVE any pic in
its normal format (jpg, bmp, gif) awright, but problem is can go right back to
saved pic, try to open it with my graphics ap (PSP) & will get ERROR MSG
stating "Unsupported start of file marker"; AND this isn't just the case with
PSP only, as get similar error msg using other aps. Have tried dumping all
cached net files, cookies, dwnloaded installations/Prog files, etc., but
nadda fixes problemo!!! Would be pleased & very appreciative of any/all
suggestions rendered henceforth on this subject.

None of the above!!!
This problem NOT related to spyware, etc or other software on my cmptr; most
likely is related to MICROSOFT (IE6 or other) behavior/settings in my
opinion; darn, I had to disable 'Pop-up Blocker' in IE6's Options just to be
able to POST msgs in this Newsgroup - - - - WHY should THAT be, huh???

Try this work around:

1. Click Start, run, type "inetcpl.cpl" (with out quotation marks) and click
OK.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart)" check box.
4. Click OK.

Also, try this:
* Click Start, run, type "iexplore /rereg" (with out quotation marks) and
click OK.

1st of all, THANKS Meena & Jan for your replies :-)
To CLARIFY, problem is NOT saving pic files in correct formats, but rather
OPENING them after saving with PSP or a few other graphic aps; to update tho,
have found out that this occurs not only when using IE6 as browser but also
with FireFox so now not sure if IE only is problem!!! The ONE & ONLY
exception I've found to the above is that 'IrfanView' WILL open these saved
files when all the other aps fail & give some error msg similar to:
"Unsupported start of File Marker." Also, this only seems to apply when
saving/opening JPG & BMP files and NOT GIF files. So for now am stuck with
saving these files from the Netpage (in whatever format I wish), but then
opening them using IrfanView (as the EDITOR), then saving them again from out
of IrfanView; then & only then I can OPEN said files with PSP (et al) & do
the REAL editing I wish. As I titled it: This is funkiest problem I've EVER
encountered & only one I've not resolved myself with no help, but THIS ONE
has got me stumped but good - - - - - - HELLLLLP!!!

Hi LSUcajun :-)

Try the following and see if this helps:

How to set default program for viewing images

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Folder Options>File Types, scroll down to
the image
extension, for example .jpg click change button, choose the program that
you want to use with that file type, click okay, then whenever you click on
that file, it will use the program you choose to view it.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
