Sure Ive smelled the usual plastic smell on new monitors and other
devices - sort of like the new car smell theres a strong odor of
plastic etc when you first get a device.

However this AOC monitor - same as Envision , made by EPI , has this
this moderately strong transformer like smell all the time when you
switch it on. Kind of like a warmed up chemical smell .

Other than that the monitor seems OK.

Most new electronics off-gas vapours for a period of a week or two of
operation. It's normal.

Yeah its probably nothing but my Viewsonic and Sony sure didnt smell
this bad. Not even close.

I got the AOC cheapie for my 2nd PC and I kept thinking some eletrical
device was burning until I figured what it was. Nothing seems wrong
with the monitor though. So Ill assume its OK.

That is one STINKY monitor though. Youll have people going - "What the
heck is that smell?"

How old is your AOC monitor?

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

After I bought it , it sat for 2 months in the box and since then its
been used about 8 times. I bought it 3 months ago.

If the smell continues then there may be a problem. As others have said it
just sounds like new electronics "burn-in" except with a stronger odor than
most.

I would recommend returning it. If there is some sort of
incipient fire waiting to break out, it will be far to late when
it does. Something like a shorted turn or two in a transformer
could cause such effects.
