Weird Shut Down

When I shut my computer Down (XP Home Edition), it begins
the shut down, then very breifly flashes the message "The
Application Failed to initialize because the window
station is shutting down", then it very abruptly shuts
down.

Does anyone know what causes this and how to correct it?
