weird messenger problems...

Ok, I primarily use Msn 6.1, and very rarely use the windows messenger.

Anyway, under options of windows messenger, I chose for it not to run in the background, and I chose for it not to run @ start-up, and for it not to auto-sign in once a internet connection is established. Every time I start up my computer, I nottice windows messenger is running in the background. So, I ran the program, and went to options to see that "run in the background" was turned on, when I had turned it off. Also, about 1 out of 5 times upon start-up, windows messenger auto-signs in once a connection is established

I removed the main component to windows messenger under "control panel/ add-remove programs/ add-remove windows components" and I'm still getting the same problem, where it runs in the background, or sometimes will auto-sign in.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm having similar problems where i tick options and then come back later to find that they have been pysteriously unticked and the settings have changed. like i keep asking it to remember my email and to show a display picture but as soon as i close it and open it again the settings have been reset... it doesnt remember any of the changes that i make to it... grrr

Greetings,

Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a new
"instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause it to also
keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in
the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click
Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.
