I'm doing a wireless setup for a buddy, but I can't access the routers
configuration page. The IP address 169.254.133.73 keeps showing up, not
192.168.0.1.

I go to Run>cmd>ipconfig /release, but it won't let me renew the IP address.
I've reset the router, restarted the computer, and did everything all over
again, but it still pops up with 169.254.133.73. I can't get rid of it!!!

Can someone show me the way?

Thanks

169.254.133.73 is an address in a block that is assigned to Microsoft. It
is the address that XP uses when it cannot find a DHCP server.
So, you need to determine if the address of your router is 192.168.0.1 (see
the router manual). Many of them use 192.168.1.1...
You need to determine if your router is setup to be a DHCP server. You must
determine why you cannot access the router before you can check this.
You need to determine if your computer is setup to use a DHCP router to find
its IP address.
Meanwhile, have you investigated use of a hardwire address in the Hosts
file?
It doesn't seem that what you have done so far is very useful or necessary.
You need to follow the instructions in the manual for the interface and for
the router to get things to work right.

the router to get things to work right.>>

When I first hooked it up, I typed in 192.168.0.1 and the config screen came
up. I then went to Tools to upgrade to the new firmware, but it froze up.
After I rebooted, I got 169.254.133.73, and now that's all I can get. I've
seen this before in the past, but it went away after I rebooted.

I guess I'll go to the DLink tech support site.

Change the Network settings on the PC to a fixed IP in the subnet of the
router - its DHCP server isn't working. If you still can't get into the
router, it could be you lost it with a failed firmware update. No help
for that.

Know what the problem is? The friggin' router is no good. I was checking out
the DLink site, and I decided to do a reset. It says the router is reset
when the WLAN light stops blinking. Well, the WLAN light on the router
blinks away and never stops.

Thanks for the info guys, and sorry for bugging you.

Don't feel ashamed by this. What we now have is another reason for failure.
