I restarted my computer after uninstalling a few programs
that my wife had downloaded. While restarting the page
that says "window is starting" took about ten minuted
before going on to the user page. When I finally was
able to log on to my desktop...it took a really long time
to access. All my network connections have been lost and
I keep getting an error message saying that I don't have
an audio device installed every time I try to play an mp3.

IS THIS A VIRUS????

If you suspect a virus, you should always run a virus scan, with antivirus
software updated with the most recent virus definitions.

The error would indicate you might need to reinstall the drivers for your
soundcard. Open System in Control Panel, go to the hardware tab, click
Device Managre and look for any red or yellow warnings, especially for your
soundcard. Even if you have no warnings, given the error you should
certainly reinstall your soundcard drivers and if that fails to resolve it,
check the device manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.

Also, you might check the event log. Open Control Panel, open
Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for errors that correspond to
the time when the error message appeared and double click the message. The
information contained within may give a clue as to the source of the issue.

You may want to check for other errors, especially those corresponding to
when you booted as they may give a clue about the loss of your network
connections.

Assuming virus scans come up clean, you might want to run System Restore to
take you back to a time prior to when these issues began. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.
