I suppose that subject reads a bit like one of those National Enquirer
headlines, 'Elvis Discovered Living On Moon', etc. But I'm serious,
that's exactly what happened. I clicked the following link to a PNG
file (it was an image I'd just hurriedly posted to my web page in
reply to someone's request for advice in another NG)
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Images/Example.png

.... and promptly got a message that Windows Installer would now
install Outlook 2002. Nor would the darn thing at first let me cancel
out of that. Started asking me for my CD. Not sure how, but I escaped
eventually - I was frantically pressing Cancel, 'X', <Alt+F4>, etc -
and eventually the correct image appeared in MSIE6. At some point I'm
sure I also saw some mention of Microsoft PhotoExplorer.

FWIW, clicking PNG files on my HD brings them up in PaintShop Pro 7 as
usual. I haven't dared try to download another PNG yet.

Also, Outlook 2002 has been and still appears to be working OK. (I use
it only because I have a Pocket PC, and Outlook came with that, for
synchronising.)

Anyone in any of these three groups have any ideas as to what may be
happening here please?

Not one of the graphics, browser or Outlook experts with any ideas
please?

I had no problems opening this page with Mozilla. Why don't
you upgrade from IE to Mozilla? It is free:
