Hello,

I am having trouble with IE 6 SP1 ( on Windows XP Pro ) ,
wherein I am connected to the Internet over a dialup
connection , and am able to browse with Mozilla and Opera ,
but not with IE . IE just times out in trying to resolve
the ip name ( no problem in pinging localhost at
commandline , but doesn't work when trying to resolve
localhost in IE . I have IIS 5.1 installed , default
installation ) . I don't know exactly when the problem
started since I haven't used my home computer in a while .
Would appreciate any clues to solving this . TIA .

I have a system using XP Home that is also able to connect with
Netscape, can ping IP's and resover names to IP addresses. But when
IE tries to resove a name it always show 127.0.0.1 in the left side of
the status bar. I'm not sure when it started but SP1 and all follow
up batches are installed. System is using a dialup connection and if
you do an IPCONFIG /ALL at the command prompt windows has received the
DNS server addresses but IE still tried to look at localhost
(127.0.0.1) instead of using the nets DNS server. Netscapte works
fine.

Ron,
Are you using some kind of "Proxy" setup?
Shows up in HijackThis as: [example]
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
[or]
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1
