weird ATI Radeon 9600PRO problem

Im having weird problems with my new radeon card
every now and then my machine will lock up for a few seconds with looping
sound then it will come back to life and the sound will carry on playing...
but the video then dissapears... and my monitor enters standbye... and i
must reset my machine to get it back... it doesnt happen very often but it
is quite worring...
any idea whats happenin?

Sounds like it may be overheating. You didn't say what you are running on
the computer when the fault develops.

could be power supply, also make sure the chipset drivers have been
installed, those are the motherboard drivers, may want to try another
newer video driver. but the power supply would be my first suspect ~

im getting rather mixed signals... which is confusing me a bit now...
the card os overclocked and was overclocked the same way i have done all my
cards....
push each clock untill visual problems develop
then back off... do 1 clock at a time...
ive had this problem happen twice now...
once was in counterstrike
and once was in call of duty

the heatsink on the cards core gets luke warm during even the highest stress
games...
the ram DOES get hot but since it didnt overclock too well. i work in a
computer store where we class too hot to be too hot to touch... and i can
quite confortably hold my hand on this ram for as lomg as i like... this
however, does not mean that the card is not overheating... i just dont know
the highest acceptable temperatures are...
