In pivot tables, I know I can group dates by days, months, quarters, years.
But can I group by day of the week (i.e. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc.)?

Organize your data by day of the week BEFORE you put it in a Pivot Table.
Then, put everything in a Pivot Table and pivot by day of week.

So there is no way for the pivot table to automatically do this for me? I
have dates in column A of my data sheet. In the pivot tables, excel just
reads these dates and automatically groups them by month, quarter, or year.
There is no way to do this for days of the week, correct?

In A2, I have =today()
So the value is 12/16/2009

In Column B I have Day; In Column C I have Month, In column D I have Year;

I just created a Pivot Table and grouped by: Month in Row and Year in
Column. Then, I put Count of Day in ‘Data Items’. You can do pretty much
whatever you want to do with Pivot Tables. If it doesn’t you the desired
results, change you r DATA! The Pivot Table is built off of the DATA. You
DATA may not be…atomic…meaning smallest possible units…and thus your Pivot
Table may not give you your desired results. Again, try to manipulate your
DATA, and then manipulate your PIVOT TABLE.

Good luck!
