Can anyone tell me precisely how to remove webtrendsalive from the
Registry - I can easily remove the cookie but have been told I need to
remove appropriate entries from the Registry but not what they are or
exactly where.

start/run, type:
regedt32

Edit menu, Find, type
webtrendsalive

I would use System Restore to create a point. This would save the registry
before trying anything.

Many thanks Mark for your prompt reply - webtrendsalive produced no result.
The cookie concerned was (e-mail address removed),com
so I tried statse which provided the following entry under the full cookie
address:-
REG_DWORD 0x00000004(4)

Am I hopefully safe in right clicking this item and delete do you think?
( I have a restore point ! )

I would not hesitate to try that one. Recovery should be pretty easy, if you
find some negative result.

Again thanks Mark but my mind is now starting to boggle -what's new ! To
start with I now see I said "webstrendsalive" (and other variations)
instead of webtrendslive. However deleting the statse entry still produced
the cookie when going on line again but not before. A further search for
statse in the whole registry produced another entry which which I also
deleted. After deleting the cookie, searching the registry again for
webtrendslive and statse with no result rebooting failed to show the cookie
again until going on line. For the time being I just give up cos off on
holiday for a week early in the morning. Again thanks for your interest, any
other suggestions would of course be appreciated.

This kind of cleanup is just a dreary task you can easily put off till
later. Have fun.
The cookie monster has a setting to turn them off in IE, Tools, Privacy tab.

Try to use the Crap cleaner to remove it and all the Junk on your Machine,
as Mark Kindly elaborated try to raise your security on the Browser and the
Firewall to block it.
