I was wondering if anyone can help me.

We have a website that allows clients to send us work. We are after creating
an icon - similar to Google when you use 'Create icon' on the right click
menu, to enable use to have a custom icon on the desktop - all attempts we
have have failed!

Any ideas?

Thanks for that - the favicon is ok for the website header, but when we
right click to create an icon on the desktop - we only get the standard IE
logo, rather than our corporate logo....any ideas?

If you have already created a shortcut on your machine before you added the favicon to
your site, then the shortcut is already mapped to the default IE icon and adding any new
shortcuts to the same url will use the default icon.

You need to:
Delete any current shortcuts to the site, including any added to favorites.
Clear your browser Temporary Internet, Cookie and History files.
Then go to Control Panel, open TweakUI, click the Repair tab and select "Rebuild Icons"
If you do not have TweakUi installed, find and delete the file hidden file named
ShellIconCache ( It lives in the windows directory, C:\Windows ) and restart the machine.

When it is done, close TweakUi and the Control Panel, open the website and add a shortcut
to your desktop.
It should then use your favicon.

That i can do - the problem that i have is that clients are using our
website to send us work, and i would like our corporate logo as the icon, on
my machine i can change it - but what i am after is that when my sales guys
show them the site they can right click "create icon" and our corporate logo
appears on there desktop.

Sorry to be a pain but this is driving me up the wall and my CEO has asked
for it to be incorporated into the site, and we are lost for ideas, short of
paying someone a small fortune to do it.

Dave

You can't install anything on a users desktop unless you provide
- a downloadable installer program
(that the user must run - to say just install a link on the desktop to you site w/ your icon)
- or a downloadable icon file w/ instructions for your users on how to change the icon to use yours
