websites that control your browser

I use Firefox as my browser and use it so that when it is open it does not
cover the entire desktop. Yet there are some legitimate websites that when
I go to them seem to take over my browser causing it to expand to fill the
entire screen.

I find that very disturbing. How do they do that? Can I prevent it? Why the
heck do they do it?

They do it by coding in the webpage. Complain to the webmaster of that
site. However, I've never had this happen at a legitimate website using
either IE or Firefox or Mozilla. I've had it happen where an iffy site
made the webpage smaller, probably because it was trying to open or run
something not allowed by my browser and/or system.

Post some urls where this happens to you and others can check them out
for you.

Jeff,

If the site is using JavaScript to do this you can disable it from
resizing or moving the window by going to Tools, Options, click the Web
Features icon in the left frame. Now click the Advanced button next to
Enable JavaScript. Uncheck the box next to " Move or resize existing
window "
Click OK.

It happened once just recently. I've tried to remember by going into the
browser history to see which url it was but could not identify it. I know
it was not a weird or porno site. If it happens again I will make a note of
the url. Of course it may never do so anymore because at the Mozilla site
they showed me the setting in Firefox I can change that would allow me to
use JavaScript but prevent that from happening again.
