I read somewhere that there was a website with audiofiles with sounds
of harddrives on it. So you can listen to them and decide whether your
drive might be faulty as well.

Forgot to write down the URL.

Anyone have an idea?

regards.

Marco.

There used to be some on the IBM site too, dunno where those have gone.

One of them went to live in my harddrive probably :-)

It's an IBM IC35L080AVVA07-0, a.k.a Deskstar 120GXP, 80GB.
It makes funny noises, but they don't sound the same as those .wav files
on that site you mentioned.

The sound is very hard to discribe. Think I have to make a recording
myself.

In the meantime, has anyone experienced the same issue with an IBM drive
like that?

Very likely |-)

Yeah, completely impossible in my opinion.

Yep, its really the only viable approach.

Yeah, quite a few with IBM GXP drives.

Hi Marco

I have the same drive as you, and yes it makes some stange noises. It
does a lot of clicking but worst of all about once a week it makes a
noise which i can olny describe as a couple of clunks over the top of
a high pitched squeel !!

It's done this from new and is well over a year old now. It works fine
though, with no data loss or corruption and checks out fine with IBM's
diagnostic software.

Hi,

I have the same hard disc. After runnning it most the time for half a
year, I powered off the computer for a longer time. Afterwards everytime
I powered the computer, the hard disc made a strange noise.
For myself IBM's diagnostic software found nothing during testing, but
the deleting function of IBM's diagnostic software returned an error.
Because of this I exchanged the disk at the dealer without problems...
