WebRoot detects, MS Antispyware doesn't

I first downloaded WebRoot's recent spyware sample, ran it , and it found a
critical/high risk trojan. Unfortunately I did not write down the name. They
wanted me to buy the product before it would remove this dangerous threat.

Downloaded MS and Spy S&D. Neither found a trojan.

I could re-download the Webroot app again...but has anyone heard of a
significant difference between MS and Webroot for locating trojans and
serious threats? Thanks in advance!

Webroot SpySweeper has a higher detection rate than MSAS. I would reinstall
SpySweeper and scan again and write down what it found and search the net
and find out what the files are associated with.

If you find code that constitutes a real threat that Microsft Antispyware
has missed, I can get it to the team.

Zip it up, password protect it, and send it to me with the password.

My guess is that you'll find that something relatively innocuous has been
detected as nasty. This is a problem with all antispyware--frequently, say,
an open source installer piece may be detected as a threat, since a real
threat included that code.
