Any ideas on how to fix a webcam related Code 10?
We have an hp webcam, model KQ245AA.
Background: I have a 933mHz PIII with on-board USB-1.1. An ASUS motherboard
(P3V4X). I have 2MB of RAM. I have 4 PCI Card slots, an AGP slot, and one
ISA slot. We wanted to add a webcam to our computer. The USB Webcam we
bought works as a USB-1.1 plub-in if do low resolution pictures in thumbnail
size. USB-1.1 is not fast enough for higher resolution or larger sizes. So
I bought aPCI-bus USB 2.0 expansion card with five (5) USB 2.0 connectors (4
external, 1 internal) - since I had 3 available PCI card slots.
I plugged in the Vantec-brand USB expansion card in a PCI card slot. I got
a Code 10 - Device will not start. I enabled the device, the code 10 went
away, but I then got a Code 12 - insufficient resources. I moved the USB
expansion card to another PCI slot and the problem went away.
I then plugged in the webcam to one of the 4 external USB slots. The webcam
no longer words. I went into the Device Manager. The device is enabled, but
I still get a Code 10.
Things I verified:
- the driver is the latest driver available.
- my computer is fully upgraded in Windows XP (SP3 and all updates)
- the device is compatible with Windows XP (by Microsofts verification tool)
- I have upgraded the motherboard to the latest non-Beta BIOS.
Things I have not tried:
- I don't have a registry cleaner, so have not tried this yet.
- Disable the on-board USB 1.1 to free resources. I don't know how to
distinguish this from the USB 2.0 entries in Device Manager. Ideas?
I know this was a lengthy note, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know.
