when i view web sites it looks different on my computer
than on others. i think there are colors missing. like if
the site has a jpg file, i can see that. but it the site
has black in the background of the page with white text,
it changes it on me to have no background and just plain
black text. what did i set incorrectly to make my web
sites appear so plain? sometimes even text is missing off
sites. i have to select all or highlight to see what
i'm "missing" from the web page.

Different browsers will render the same web page
differently. Internet Explorer will look different than
Mozilla. In addition, you can set a different color palette
and have other settings customized.
The list is long, you need to look at several areas to be
sure of setting everything back to default on the display.

Go to Control Pane->Internet options. there are 4 buttons at the bottom of
the General Tab. Look in the Color and the Accessibility buttons. Select
"Use windows colors" under the Colors button. Ensure all boxes are not
checked under the Accessibility button
